About

This blog is for parents and family members of a child or teen with a mental or emotional disorder, including substance abuse issues.  It is for sharing tips, ideas, stories, research, and commentary on the most challenging parenting job of all–nurturing and caring for a troubled child or teen, while nurturing oneself and the rest of the family.  Your comments and contributions are welcomed.

Blog writer Margaret Puckette discovered that no matter what the family’s background or the child’s disorder, all families go through the same feelings and struggles.  Even if there is no diagnosis, all families can take the same steps at home to achieve balance and well being, and improvement in their child’s behavior.  And all families have reason for hope because they all have it in them to survive.

Margaret is a Family Partner for Wraparound Oregon in Portland, and works with low income families with troubled teens.  She has facilitated support groups for family members of troubled children for over 10 years, and has authored “Raising Troubled Kids – Help for Parents of Children with Mental and Emotional Disorders.”  The book’s subject matter is drawn from her experience as an advocate for improved mental health treatment for children, her personal experience as a parent, and the voices and experiences of family members, therapists, doctors, and troubled children themselves.  Visit Margaret’s website at http://www.raisingtroubledkids.com, or review pages in her book by going to Amazon.com.  Ask a question by emailing margaret@raisingtroubledkids.com.
